Big Day For Indian Cinema: Here’re 3 Nominations, Including RRR’s Naatu Naatu For Oscars 2023

The 95th Academy Awards nominations have been declared. So it should be no surprise that RRR gets nominated for Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu, which previously won the Golden Globe in the same category. Thousands of people have grooved to Naatu Naatu’s beat.

In 2021, the song, which lasted four and a half minutes, was shot in front of the official residence of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky. This nomination is one of three for Indian cinema.

Naatu Naatu will compete with four other nominees: Applause – Tell It Like A Woman, Rihanna’s Lift Me Up – Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Lady Gaga’s Hold My Hand – Top Gun: Maverick, and This Is A Life – Everything Everywhere All At Once.

A notable deletion is Taylor Swift’s Carolina – Where The Crawdads Sing, which was recently nominated for a Golden Globe.

The official Twitter handle for RRR tweeted, “We created history.”

All That Breathes gets nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film, along with The Elephant Whisperers, which has been nominated for Best Documentary Short. Both of these documentaries were made in India.

The official Oscar entry from India, Chhello Show or Last Picture Show, was not included in the final list for Best International Feature Film. RRR and the documentaries entered a select group of Indian films nominated for Oscars, including Mother India, Salaam Bombay, and Lagaan. If MM Keeravaani wins an Oscar in addition to a Golden Globe, he will join a group of Indian Oscar winners like Bhanu Athaiya, who received Best Costume Design for Gandhi, and AR Rahman, Gulzar, and sound engineer Resul Pookutty, who won Oscars for their work on Slumdog Millionaire, a British-made film set in India.

Actors Alison Williams and Riz Ahmed made the Oscar nominations public. On March 12, Los Angeles will host the 95th Academy Awards. For the third time, chat show host Jimmy Kimmel will serve as host.
