Brahmastra Trailer Review: Something Like Never Before, Is This Bollywood’s Revival?

Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, set to be released worldwide on 9 September 2022, has finally got its official trailer in front of the world. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Mouni Roy, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna Akkineni and many others, Brahmastra is set to be released as a trilogy. It is the first film in its own cinematic universe – ‘Astraverse’

Beginning with! This could be a revolution. Hands down one of the best Bollywood trailers we have ever seen. The trailer unfolds the story of Brahmastra with VFX and CGI like never before. With an estimated budget of around Rs. 300 crores, the VFX team has done a commendable job and given Indian cinema their first ever original VFX contender to be put forward in the world against Hollywood giants.

The next thing that grabs your attention is the story. Brahmastra combines Hindu Mythology with a modern story of superpowers and super energies. It is a rare instance that we talk so deeply about the story of a Bollywood film. Most of the films released in recent times are too shallow in their plots to be discussed with interest.

Brahmastra puts the viewer in the world of ‘Astras’. These are some extremely powerful weapons, in which energies of the world are harnessed. And Part One: Shiva, unfolds the story of the Lord of these Astras – The Brahmastra. The destiny of Brahmastra depends on a casual Indian young boy, Shiva (played by Ranbir Kapoor). Mouni Roy, who plays the antagonist, desires to possess the Brahmastra and this brings us to the battle of the good and the bad.

However, if you think the plot of Brahmastra is just that, you are mistaken. There is a lot more to Brahmastra than just a battle between the good powers and the bad desiring possession of the most powerful weapon in the Universe. The story of Brahmastra seems very promising and original.

Jumping to performances, there is no question on the acting performances of the actors in the movie. Alia Bhatt also seemed to take the limelight away in the romantic scenes with Ranbir Kapoor. There is probably any other on-screen couple that looks as cute as Ranbir and Alia, they are simply two of the most beautiful people you’ll see on the screen. However, if you think Ranbir and Alia’s romance is just that forced attempt of Bollywood, it’s not so. It looks like Alia Bhatt holds an important character whose role is key in the story of Brahmastra!

The trailer holds much more to it than we’ve already discussed. Shah Rukh Khan’s character and look was not revealed in the film trailer, however the audience has all kinds of speculations regarding his character. Some believe he’s the guy with Lord Hanuman floating besides in the dark sky while some believe he’s playing the role of Lord Shiva. Shah Rukh’s cameo is confirmed, not his role yet.

People are comparing Brahmastra to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some of the characters of both the films are being compared. Though it is an undebatable fact that Brahmastra, at some point, is inspired from the MCU but as there’s a lot that makes it different. The Astras, the Hindu Mythology, the storyline, all of it sets Brahmastra apart from the MCU.

Brahmastra Part One: Shiva is an attempt of Bollywood to revive the industry and to be honest, this is the most honest Bollywood attempt we’ve ever seen. 8 years of hard work, promising storyline, something unique, World-class CGI ready to compete with huge budget Hollywood films, brilliant performances, legends in the starcast is all that makes Brahmastra one of the most promising films in the history of Bollywood. This could change the fate of Bollywood and open a whole new pathway for many young producers aspiring to enter the superhero world in India. This is going to be a revolution!
