Complaint Registered Against Anurag Kashyap’s Short Film For Foetus Eating Scene

A complaint against renowned Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap’s short film which is a part of the 2020 Netflix anthology, Ghost Stories has been received by Netflix India.

This makes it one of the first complaints to be registered after the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting formulated the Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021 earlier this year.

As per the sources, the complainant filed the complaint against an objectionable scene in which the character of Sobhita Dhulipala eats a foetus after going through a miscarriage.

According to the complainant, the scene was not required for the storyline and if the creators still wished to add it, they should’ve given a trigger warning for the mental health of  women who have gone through the traumatic experience of a miscarriage.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting formulated the Information Technology Rules, which regulated the content on digital platforms. Under the new rules, complaints must be registered within 24 hours and addressed as soon as possible.

The spokesperson for Netflix India said that the project in question was a partner-managed production among RSVP Movies and Flying Unicorn Entertainment and Netflix has reached the production companies to share the complaint.

Before the new rules, the digital media was largely unregulated and unregulated content roamed over various platforms. But with the new rules in effect, digital content has been put under some restrictions to limit some certain type of content from digital media.
