Popular Punjabi singer Surinder shinda passed away on 26th July but left behind a rich legacy. His contribution in the Punjabi entertainment industry will always be remembered by the generation to come.

But, Do you know that Surinder Shinda was the teacher of another legendary Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila? Yes, you read it right!

Surinder Shinda was the one who introduced the legendary Punjabi folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila to punjabi industry. He said that an 18-year-old Chamkila approached him for the first time on a bicycle with his friend Kuldeep Paras. When he heard chamkila sing, Surinder said  he had finally found the protege that he had been looking for.

Amar Singh Chamkila’s previous name was Dunni Ram and he was born in the village Dugri, near Ludhiana. He was born into a poor family. Chamkila wanted to be an electrician but his aspiration was not fulfilled, so eventually he started working at a cloth mill.

Later, with a natural talent of singing, he came into this field and changed his name to Amar Singh Chamkila. Initially, he used to work as lyricist for Surinder Shinda but later took to his solo career.

Amar Singh Chamkila is regarded as one of the best live stage performers. He had a massive fan following not only in Punjab but all the Punjabis from all over the world used to love his songs. He once performed more than 365 shows in a year, sometimes booked in different villages on the same day. 

Chamkila was gunned down by three disguised men riding a motorcycle. Chamkila was 27 at the time of his death. But he still continues to rule over the hearts of all the Punjabis!
