Fact Check: UP CM Adityanath Yogi Requests People To Boycott SRK’s Pathan? Here Is The Truth

Pathan, one of the most anticipated films by Shahrukh Khan is all set to see the light of the day. The film which will be starring Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham alongside SRK is scheduled to release in 2023.

Fans and SRK’s friends from the industry are eagerly waiting for the film to release soon. But it seems like the film has been facing some problems. Recently a video has been going viral on the internet where UP CM Yogi Adityanath is seen urging people to boycott Shah Rukh Khan’s movie Pathan.

In the video, we can see Yogi saying in Hindi, “Some so-called left-minded artists and authors have started making anti-national statements. Unfortunately, Shah Rukh Khan is one of them. This is not the first time. He has acted like this in the past as well.”

He added, “Shah Rukh Khan should remember that if the majority community boycotts his films, he will have to wander the streets like an ordinary Muslim.” Not only this, but he also went on to compare the actor to Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed.

Further, when the video went all over the internet, The India Today Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) found the claim that the video is about seven years old and had nothing to do with SRK’s upcoming film.

Reports stated that at the very beginning of the video Adityanath was identified as ‘Leader of BJP’ and not Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. This clearly indicated that the video is old and from before his first tenure as the CM.

While digging more on the same, prominent news portal India Today found out that at that time, Adityanath was an MP from Gorakhpur. The headline read, “SRK talks like Hafiz Saeed, can go to Pakistan: Yogi Adityanath.”

The video is from 4 November 2015. Hence, the video has nothing to do with SRK’s Pathan. It was from before Adityanath was the UP CM and was a reaction to Khan’s comments on discrimination in India.
