Charu Sood, born in Chandigarh, is the Deputy Mayor of Elmbridge (United Kingdom). This is her second consecutive term as a councillor. Her father Shashi Bhushan Sood and mother Kiran Sood live in Chandigarh. Mr. Sood is also the president of Sood Sabha in Chandigarh.
Charu did her schooling in Chandigarh and then graduated in Commerce from the Khalsa College (Punjab University) in the year 2000. After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she did a post graduate diploma from Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan in Mass Communication/Media studies in 2000-2001 and then a distance MBA in Marketing from Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning in 2001-2003.
Along with her distance MBA in 2001, she started her first job as a Back Office Operations Manager in HFCL Infotech Ltd in Chandigarh and continued till June 2004. After marrying Saurabh Sood, Charu moved to the United Kingdom in 2007 and has been a resident of the UK since then. She served as a senior associate in the State Bank of India (UK) from October 2012 to July 2013 in London.
Charu is the director of CATTS INTERNATIONAL LIMITED and also the founder of “Waybridge in Bloom” community project, which is aimed at increasing civic pride in the local Weybridge community. As mentioned in her LinkedIn profile, “through this initiative, we want to encourage residents and businesses to get involved and make Weybridge a brighter, cleaner and greener place in which to live, work, and do business.”
In 2018, Charu was elected as the new councillor of Elmbridge Borough council in the United Kingdom. At the Borough, she serves on the South Area Planning Sub Committee, Climate Advisory Board and Licensing. She is also the Shadow Cabinet Member for community and social affairs. She has been elected as the Events Officer for the Runnymede and Weybridge Association and has also been elected as Chair for the Conservative Women Organisation.
She is a renowned social worker and has actively supported various charities in Elmbridge working for children and even helped the domestic abused and homeless victims. She is an environmentalist too, and has worked hard to make people aware of several environment friendly reforms like reducing the usage of plastics, improving the cleanliness around the city etc.
Now, this is the second time that she has been elected as a councillor and now made the Deputy Mayor of Elmbridge. Charu’s journey, her hard work, dedication and exemplary achievements are an inspiration for the people.
