Who Is IPS Gaurav Yadav? The New DGP Of Punjab

IPS Gaurav Yadav, a specialist in counterintelligence, has been appointed by the Punjab government as the new DGP (Director General of Police). Earlier he also served as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Special Principal Secretary.

Who is IPS Gaurav Yadav?

Gaurav Yadav, a 1992 batch IPS officer, is the son-in-law of PC Dogra, the former DGP of Punjab. Yadav hails from Belapar village in Uttar Pradesh. His father, Bhagwati Prasad Yadav, is a retired colonel.

Coincidentally, Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party and the chief minister of Delhi, both cleared the Civil Services Examination in 1992. While Mr. Kejriwal chose the Indian Revenue Service, Yadav was chosen for the (IPS) Indian Police Service.

In 2014, Jagtar Singh Tara, one of the most wanted terrorists, was captured as a result of an international operation led by IPS Gaurav Yadav, who is now the DGP of Punjab. He also served as the Chandigarh SSP from 2022-2004. For ten years, Yadav was Punjab’s SSP, while for four years, he also served as the state’s police commissioner.

The Punjab government’s decision to appoint IPS Gaurav Yadav as the new DGP, came after DGP VK Bhawra went on a 2-month leave from July 5 to September 7. By degree, Yadav is a Mechanical Engineer, with M.A. in Police Administration and is also a PhD.

Now IPS Gaurav Yadav will be the new DGP of Punjab. He has a long policing experience in the state and strong administrative hold across Punjab. Before his appointment as the state’s DGP, he was promoted as the Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
