Shockingly, the protestors alleged that this was the second death of a student at Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, in the last 10 days. Reportedly, Agni S Dilip, the 21-year-old student from Kerala, pursuing a degree in design, committed suicide due to some “personal issues”, as claimed by the police on the basis of the suicide note.

Likewise, the University also stated the similar reason for his death. As per news agency ANI, the university’s statement reads, “LPU fraternity is saddened by the unfortunate incident. The initial investigation by the Police, and the contents of the suicide note point towards personal issues of the dead. The university is providing full support to the authorities for further investigation.”

However, the agitating students have been demanding to know the actual reason behind both the suicide cases, alleging that the university resolved the previous incidence “behind closed doors”. Though the police have been investigating the case, the points raised by the protesting students, raises numerous questions on the university’s administration.

Furthermore, the actual reason behind these suicides would come to the fore after investigation, however, the initial enquiry marks that the second suicide was due to some personal reasons, citing the suicide note of the deceased. Meanwhile, the rising cases of students’ suicide, especially at LPU Phagwara, is a matter of concern.
