Jatinder Mauhar has brought us a new Punjabi period drama film ‘Maurh’ which is based on the life of Punjab’s legendary hero – Jeona Maurh. The film is now out on big screens and thus we have penned this Maurh movie review for you.

Maurh is a big budget Punjabi film that stars Ammy Virk and Dev Kharoud in lead roles. The movie boasts an outstanding cast that includes Naiqra Kaur, Kuljinder Sidhu, Vikramjeet Virk, Amiek Virk, Parmveer Singh, Jarnail Singh, Marc Randhawa, Richa Bhatt and ensemble. The film is written and directed by Jatinder Mauhar. While Jatin Sethi and Karaj Gill are the producers of the film. As it is a biography of legendary bandit Jeona Maurh, fans had high expectations from Maurh. Does Maurh land well on the expectations of fans? Read this Maurh movie review to know the answer.

Story & Screenplay

Beginning this Maurh movie review by discussing the story of the film is set towards the end of the 19th century during the time of British rule. The film shows how poor people were exploited ruthlessly by the colonial masters and the egoistic landlords. Despite the systemic oppression Kishna Maurh (Dev Kharoud) becomes a bandit with an aim to avenge the poverty-stricken people. On the other hand Jeona Maurh (Ammy Virk) is a rather dutiful, god-fearing man who doesn’t want any trouble. But in the meantime something happens in Jeona’s life that influences him to take up arms and fight for his people against tyranny.

The movie’s story is familiar to people who have read or heard about the legendary bandit Jeona Maurh. This is the reason why this movie was very much dependent on the screenplay. The screenplay of the film has two parts – one which is beyond excellence and the other which is below average. The narrative of the movie is good, however the kind of theme this movie comes with, we expected more.

Acting & Performances

Now if we talk about the performances of the actors in our Maurh movie review then we must say this film has a number of excellent performances. The duo of Ammy Virk and Dev Kharoud was outstanding. We have already seen Dev in such fierce roles before and he never disappoints his fans. But for us to watch Ammy in an action oriented role was a new and pleasant experience. Yes we have seen his songs but Ammy as Jeona Maurh was something different and classy.

Apart from Ammy Virk & Dev Kharoud, everyone has played their part beautifully and gracefully. However the one actor who was the standout performer for us is Vikramjeet Virk, who is magnificent as Dogar in the film.

Writing & Direction

Jatinder Mauhar has directed as well as written this big budget film. The film has a talented cast and to manage such a big star cast is a tough job but Jatinder has done it nicely. Direction was pinpoint in terms of managing cinematography and costumes, however in the story part, direction and writing, both seemed flattered. Despite that, Maurh does give you a wonderful cinematic experience for sure.

Music

Movie has 3 songs including Jasmine Sandlas’ Gaun and Amrinder Gill’s Nigah. The songs are good to listen to but don’t leave a great impact on the storyline of the film. Background music of the movie is very good and gives impulsive vibes while sitting in theaters.

Overall

Concluding this Maurh movie review with our final words for the film. So, Maurh is a good attempt to show a different kind of period film that the Punjabi audience is not used to watching. Team Kiddaan rates Ammy Virk & Dev Kharoud starrer ‘Maurh’ 4 stars on the scale of 5. The only deduction in stars is due to a messed up and fussy screenplay and narration. However, Maurh does show you something unique in terms of cinematic experience, so don’t miss the chance of watching this film on big screens. Go book your tickets now!
