Robbie Coltrane, actor who played Hagrid in the Harry Potter Movies, died aged 72 on Saturday.

Coltrane's agent Belinda Wright said he died Friday at a hospital in Scotland. However she didn't  reveal his cause of death.

Belinda said “as well as being a wonderful actor, he was forensically intelligent, brilliantly witty and after 40 years of being proud to be called his agent, I shall miss him.”

She added that Coltrane is survived by his ex-wife Rhona Gemmell, his children Spencer & Alice &  his sister Annie Rae.

Robbie Coltrane was a Scottish actor best known for playing the lovable half-giant Rubeus Hagrid in the  Harry Potter movies.

Coltrane first found fame in the 1990s as a hard-bitten detective in the popular TV series Cracker.

Coltrane also played a Russian crime boss in two James Bond films "Goldeneye" (1995) & "The World  Is Not Enough" (1999).

But his role as Hagrid, a gentle half-giant, who acts as a mentor & friend to Harry, Hermione & Ron gave  him worldwide fame.

He was also seen in the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which eventually was his last  screen appearance.
