In 2016, Tate gained publicity following his removal from the seventeenth season of Big Brother after the release of a video in which Tate appeared to beat a woman with a belt. Tate said the actions were consensual and shared a clip to Facebook of a woman, who claims to be the woman in the video, saying that it was “pure game”.
He received attention for his tweets on his views over ‘what qualifies as sexual harassment’ amid the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse cases and for tweeting several other statements about that sexual assault victims share responsibility for their assaults. In 2017, Tate stated that depression is not a real illness.
Tate also operates Hustler’s University, a private online academy, where members pay a monthly membership fee in order to receive instruction on topics such as dropshipping and cryptocurrency trading.
