After being appointed the Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi has been in the headlines, sometimes due to his bold statements and sometimes due to his extraordinary gestures. The first ever Chief Minister of Punjab from the Dalit Community was on his way from the village Mandi to Chauke, when he met a newly married couple.
While Government officials are perceived to have an image of not heeding attention to such minute things, the newly appointed Chief Minister of Punjab gave an example of his generosity. He stopped his caravan to meet the newly-wed couple and bless them.
He even followed the Indian wedding ritual of gifting the couple some money, called ‘Shagun’. The CM took out Rs. 1000 from his pocket and gifted it to them. He wished them good luck for their new life ahead and even called the bride, his sister. Picking a ‘Ladoo” from the plate, the Chief Minister of Punjab left the scene, blessing the couple once again.
