7th of March, 2021 saw the opening of India’s biggest Kidney Dialysis Hospital at New Delhi. The Guru Harkrishan Institute of Medical Sciences and Research is launched by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) at Balasahib Gurudwara, New Delhi, to provide free treatment and food to all patients.
Prior to the opening, Member of the Punjab’s Shiromani Akali Dal party and the president of DSGMC, Manjinder Singh Sirsa explained how and why the hospital is important for the country. Ms Sirsa explains in the video that in addition to being the biggest kidney dialysis hospital in the country, it is also the most modernised, completely high-tech and 100% free. The patient will not be charged any amount on the kidney dialysis treatment, rather the money will be raised through the people who contribute in the Company Social Responsibility or the Co-operative Social Responsibility for community services or the centre’s Ayushman Bharat Sewa, says Ms Sirsa. The hospital wouldn’t even have a counter dedicated to receiving cash for the treatments.
On 7 March, 2021, the opening ceremony of the hospital was conducted in presence of the prominent farmer’s protest leader, Rakesh Tikait.
The hospital is equipped with 100 beds and the most advanced medical facilities in the country. It is able to treat about 500 patients per day and about 100 patients at the same time. The registration for the nation’s biggest kidney dialysis hospital will commence in about a week.
