The singer that defined an era in Punjabi music, Amar Singh Chamkila, is finally going to get his due credit. Often described as one of the most prominent figures in the music world, Amar Singh Chamkila gave the Punjabi industry a face that we today recognize as ‘Folk music’. It is now confirmed that the legendary singer is going to get a Bollywood film made on him!
Top Bollywood director Imtiaz Ali recently visited Late Amar Singh Chamkila’s residence and met his son, Jaiman Chamkila. The director had a chat with Jaiman about the life of the legendary singer and his wife, Amanjot Kaur. Jaiman was also clicked with Imtiaz Ali outside the residence.
Intiaz Ali is one of the most renowned Bollywood directors who has directed superhit Bollywood films like Jab We Met, Highway, Tamasha, Love Aaj Kal and many more. Now the director is gearing up for his next venture, a biopic on the late Punjabi legend, Amar Singh Chamkila.
Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur are regarded as the most legendary duo in Punjabi music. The artist-couple was however killed in an assassination attack on 8 March 1998. The singer and his wife might have been killed that day, but their legacy still remains.

Chamkila was a master of the music instrument ‘Tumbi’ and it is said by eye-witnesses that his live shows are unmatched till date. When a biopic on an artist of such aura and stature is made, it is sure to be legendary. While the biopic has been confirmed, there are no details regarding the probable actors or the release date of the film yet. We hope more details regarding the film will be revealed soon!
