When Gautam Adani Was Only 15 Feet Away From Death During The 26/11 Mumbai Attacks

Gautam Adani, the name that is overshadowing others in terms of earning has escaped the death in the infamous 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks in 2008. Adani met with this unfortunate event while having dinner at Taj Hotel, Mumbai.

Taj Hotel was one of the major spot that targeted by Pakistani terrorists on 26th November 2008. Business Tycoon Gautam Adani was having dinner with Mohd. Sharaf, CEO of Dubai Port, when the attacks began.

India’s richest man Gautam Adani despite being just 15-feet away from the terrorist succeeded in escaping. He heard the gun sounds, screams and even saw people dying that night. Adani with around 100 other people spent that tragic night in the basement of Taj Hotel praying for their lives. 

In an interview, Adani recalled the horrifying night of 26 November 2008. He revealed that he and Mohammed Sharaf were having a meeting at the hotel and since they were sitting on a higher floor of the hotel’s building and it was him, who had seen a group of terrorists firing rounds at people and throwing grenades indiscriminately inside the hotel. After which, he quickly informed the staff about it.

Following his intimation, the hotel’s staff had safely moved the guests to the basement. However, in order to relocate him and other guests safely to the basement, some of the members of the Taj Hotel’s staff had sacrificed their lives. Soon the basement had started suffocating, so the hotel staff had shifted the guests to the chamber area, a floor above the basement.

In another interview Gautam Adani said while recalling the attacks, “We were over 100 and everybody was praying for his life. Some had hidden below the sofa while others had taken similar evasive positions. Sitting on a Sofa, I was telling them to have faith in God. Simultaneously I was also talking to my distressed family in Ahmedabad and my driver and commando who was in my car outside the hotel.”

The terrifying night came to an end with the killing of multiple terrorists and an arrest of Ajmal Kasab by Mumbai Police and NSG. A total of 175 people had lost their lives in this brutal and inhuman massacre. More than 300 people were severely wounded in the shocking terror attack in different parts of Mumbai.

On November 27, 2008, Gautam Adani and all the other people, who were stuck inside the hotel were rescued at 8:45 A.M. with the help of the National Security Guard (NSG). A Pakistani terrorist group, Lashkar-e-Taiba took responsibility of  26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Ten members of Lashkar-e-Taiba transformed the City of Dreams into the City of Terror in just one brutal night.

After getting out of the massacre, Guatam Adani had immediately left for his home in Ahmedabad in his private aircraft. When he had landed in Ahmedabad, the reporters  asked him to reflect on the things he had gone through, then the businessman replied “I saw death at a distance of just 15 feet”.
