According to Hindustan Times, a source close to Vijay has confirmed that the ‘Jana Gana Mana’ project has indeed been canned.

Vijay Deverakonda’s Liger, directed by Puri Jagannadh, was released amid high expectations. However, the film sank at the box office. Liger was made on a huge budget of ₹100-120 crores but the film roughly collected ₹35 crore across India in its opening weekend, which is a disappointing figure given the film’s scale.

Even before the release of Liger on August 25, it was announced that Vijay Deverakonda and Puri Jagannadh will work together on another project, titled Jana Gana Mana. It also announced that the film will be released in August next year. However, both Deverakonda and Jagannadh have decided to call off Jana Gana Mana following the box office failure of Liger.

Liger is a sports action movie that boasts a story of a MMA fighter who faces heartbreak in love and makes India proud with his victory in MMA fights. Liger stars Ananya Panday, Ramya Krishnan, Ronit Roy alongside Vijay Deverakonda. World famous boxing legend Mike Tyson made a extended cameo appearance in the movie as Mark Handerson.

Liger was written and directed by Puri Jagannadh, who also produced the film along with Karan Johar‘s Dharma Production.
